symposium

Seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before taking antibiotics. That’s the theme of the World Antibiotics Awareness Week 2018.

This week, 13-19 November, the World Health Organization (WHO) wants to raise awareness about the problem of antibiotic resistance and the importance of proper usage of antibiotics. All around the world, countries organize events to give attention to this global threat.

In the Netherlands, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) organized a symposium on antibiotic resistance and care for the elderly, in cooperation with Vilans, centre of expertise for long-term care. During this symposium, held on the 14th of November, visitors could learn and discuss about new developments in the prevention of antibiotic resistance and proper usage of antibiotics.

The SensUs Organization grasped this opportunity to learn more about the problems around antibiotics and about how measurement devices might be of help. We went to the event and had a stand there to inform visitors about SensUs, to hear opinions about antibiotics, and to learn how biosensors can help contribute to better healthcare.

We learned a lot from this thought-provoking symposium, for example about the importance of hygiene in preventing antibiotics resistance. We want to thank the symposium organization for inviting SensUs and for giving us the opportunity to present our competition and speak with experts in the field.
