This year's edition

SensUs 2024

The theme of SensUs 2024 is Kidney failure also referred to as acute kidney injury (AKI). Kidney failure is characterized by one or both kidneys losing their renal function, namely, the ability to filter waste matter from the blood. This results in an accumulation of waste in the bloodstream, altering the ionic homeostasis of the blood.

An international Competition

SensUs is a yearly international Student Competition on sensors for health. By involving students, industry, and health partners we strive to accelerate the development of sensors for better healthcare.

During SensUs 2024, students from all over the world compete to make biosensors for detecting acute kidney injury. The biosensors will be judged on multiple criteria such as creativity and industrialization potential. This will be done by representatives of academia, industry, and healthcare.

High Schools Competition 2024

This year, SensUs challenges high school students to develop an innovative biosensor concept for kidney failure. The students will engage in an elaborate assignment that provides valuable insights into technology and biosensing. Additionally, they will visit the Eindhoven University of Technology for a head-start on their project, to conduct real experiments in the university's laboratories, and to present their final biosensor concepts in front of a professional jury. The winner of the High Schools Competition is invited to showcase their novel design at the annual SensUs Event, next to more than 150 students who participate in the international Student Competition!
